The Family are very intelligent and organized, but they also appear to be very psychotic and mentally unstable, most likely as a psychological symptom of the bio-agent. They believe that sophisticated technology was the cause of the end of the world, and therefore reject it and wear simple robes instead of modern clothing.

The plague that mutated the members of the Family also causes albinism and light sensitivity. Due to this, The Family are nocturnal and typically wear aviator sunglasses against heat and bright light. However although mutants they are also slowly dying from the bio-agent infection.
