Los Angeles is the most populous city in California, and the second most populous city in the United States, after New York City. As of 2010, it has a population of 3,792,621, and is built on a land area of 468.67 square miles.
Often known by its initials LA, the city is the focal point of the larger Los Angeles-Long Beach-Santa Ana metropolitan statistical area, which contains 12,828,837 people as of 2010, and which is one of the most populous metropolitan areas in the world and the second largest in the United States. Los Angeles is also the seat of Los Angeles County, the most populated and one of the most ethnically diverse counties in the United States, while the Los Angeles area itself is the most diverse metropolitan area in the United States.

Los Angeles was destroyed by Vampiris, and apart from Robert Neville, who lived in his heavily fortified home before his death, the city was infested with vampires.
In The Last Man on Earth[]
In 1965, when Europe's Disease spread across the world, Los Angeles was destroyed by the plague. While Robert Morgan was immune, the only other survivors inhabiting Los Angeles are hordes of vampires who roam the lifeless city at night, and a new society, who are infected but recieve treatment.
In The Omega Man[]
In 1977, Robert Neville, and a group of humans whose youth gives them immunity to the bio-agent, were apparently the only unmutated survivors of the plague. The rest either died or mutated into The Family, led by Jonathan Matthias.
